How to use entry, minimum, and exit speed

Every corner has three easy speed numbers: what you carried in, how slow you got, and what you carried out. The mistake is trying to maximize one of them. A higher minimum speed means nothing if it ruins the exit.

The lines look close until the middle of the corner. That small path change is what you investigate with the speed trace.

The main idea

A slightly lower minimum can be faster if it creates better rotation and earlier clean acceleration. A higher minimum is useful only when the line remains controlled and the gain survives the exit.

What to look at

  • Where the slowdown begins
  • The shape and location of minimum speed
  • Speed when acceleration becomes sustained
  • Top speed or delta on the following straight

Try this

  • Overlay two clean laps
  • Mark consistent corner boundaries
  • Compare the full speed curve, not isolated values
  • Check whether a higher minimum changes the path or exit
  • Follow the delta until the next braking zone

Keep in mind

GPS speed and corner boundaries have resolution limits. Avoid treating a tiny difference at a single sample as a driving conclusion.
